Summer's End

We would like to thank all of you who came down this summer as a volunteer.  We especially want to thank our summer staffers who gave up so much to be here with us.  It was a long busy summer and we praise God for all the work that was accomplished! 

We are now gearing up for the first day of school.  On Monday, August 25th, our students will return to their classes.  Our teachers have been working hard at preparing for the upcoming year.  Last week they spent a "total immersion" week up at the Green Building.  They "lived" with several deaf adults and did nothing but sign all day long.  We all wait with eagerness to see the language of our students expand tremendously this year.  Please pray for our teachers, students and parents.  Pray that our teachers would be able to begin sharing the gospel with our students in their language - the language they can understand.  Pray that our parents would continue to see and hear us live out grace day by day.  That they would come to know and understand the love of our Lord.

On a team note: in just a few short weeks we will be welcoming a fawll medical team.  They arrive on September 17 and will be doing clinics not only in Reynosa, but in other parts of our state of Tamaulipas as well.

We added some more photos this morning.  There are some great photos of some of the students at the hot-dog cookout on Tuesday.  We hope that you are all enjoying seeing all the progress that has been made at the sites from the beginning of the summer until now.  Look back at the other albums and take a look (especially's Kelly's site) to see the incredible progress!

Mid Week

North Carolina, Iowa and Florida have been busy working in the hot Mexican sun!  The team finished the concrete floor for the special education classroom today.  Way to go team!  The two VBS groups continue to have "hungry" children listening and playing with the volunteers.  The nurses are continuing with the clinic and have plans to give all our deaf kids a "check up" on Friday.  The hospital and Kelly's site as well is getting lots accomplished this week.

Last night we had a great cookout at the park with our students and their families.  We miss seeing them all and can't wait for school to start.  Registration is on Friday with classes starting on the 25th.  

New pictures were downloaded to this week's album last night, but no new ones tonight. We will get some more downloaded tomorrow night or Friday AM.

Welcome Lake Forest, Christ Community and Harmony Bible

The I55 staff sadly had to say goodbye to 4 of our summer staff girls: Ashley, Carol, Cassie and Chelsie.  Thanks for all your hard work girls, we are missing you!  Thankfully Brent, Zach and Rachael are staying around to help us out with our group this week.  As well we would like to welcome and thank Meghan and Hannah from Vernon, CT who came to help us out for the next two weeks.

On Saturday we welcomed three churches from North Carolina, Florida and Iowa.  Out of just over 70 people only 5 have been here on a previous work team.  Yesterday the team enjoyed church service here at the Green Building, followed by a yummy lunch and then headed over to the orphanage to play with the kids.  They rested up for today - boy have they been working hard!

The team is working three different job sites, 2 VBS groups and a medical clinic.  The job sites include Kelly's land, the hospital site and a local school that needed a concrete floor for a new special ed classroom.  There is a VBS group at our local orphanage and a VBS group at Kelly's site.  The medical clinic is being held at the local homeless shelter where we were just a few weeks ago.
